Barcelona will get a loan deal for Joao Cancelo over the line this afternoon, as the 29-year-old Portuguese full-back agrees to depart Man City for a second season in a row. Last season Cancelo enjoyed a stint with Bayern Munich, but the German side opted not to take up the option of a permanent transfer, and now a move to La Liga beckons for a player who once played in Spain for Valencia.
Joao Cancelo was a very important for Pep Guardiola's side in previous years but a shock departure away from the Etihad Stadium followed for the former Benfica and Juventus man, and now after numerous links away from City, a Barcelona transfer will come to fruition.
Comfortable playing as a midfielder or defender, it is this flexibility and fast free-flowing football that attracted Barcelona to signing the Portugal international.
It is understood that Barca have also agreed to a permanent transfer if Cancelo impresses during his loan spell, for a reported fee of 40 million euros in the summer of 2024.
