Burnley and Man City in deadline day approach for Joshua Zirkzee

31 August 2023 - 05:17

Burnley and Man City are surprise candidates to sign Dutch striker Joshua Zirkzee on transfer deadline day, as Man City will sell Cole Palmer to Chelsea, and Burnley seek to add at least one more striker to their squad before the close of the window. 22-year-old Zirkzee currently plays for Serie A side Bologna, and scored two goals in 20 games for the club so far.

  • Arsenal to battle Napoli to sign Alexsandro Ribeiro?

  • Zirkzee has yet to play for the Netherlands' full national side, but has appeared at every youth level and will eventually make the step up. Burnley manager Vincent Kompany is an admirer of the striker having worked with him at Anderlecht, and the former Bayern Munich striker has also been recommended to Pep Guardiola via an agent, who said that the 6 foot 4 striker would offer an additional threat up front to Erling Haaland.

It is reported that the asking price for Zirkzee is around 17 million euros, and with Man City selling Palmer for £50 million, signing Matheus Nunes for around £40 million, there is a little extra money to spend and Zirkzee is the primary target before the transfer window slams shut this evening.
