Manchester United were interested in Fulham midfielder Joao Palhinha during the closing stages of the summer transfer window, according to Football Insider.
The Portuguese footballer has been a revelation since his move to Fulham from Sporting last year. In his debut campaign, he made the most number of tackles in the Premier League.
Bayern were on the verge of signing him from the Cottagers on deadline day last week, but the London outfit called him back at the final hurdle after they failed to sign a replacement.
It is now revealed that United were also in the mix for the defensive midfielder, but they did not proceed with a formal bid for his services due to their Financial Fair Play situation.
United could have swapped Scott McTominay as part of the deal for Palhinha, but they were left stunned by Fulham's demands of £90 million to sell their prized asset to them.
Palhinha was open to the idea of joining United. He may not get another chance after the club signed Sofyan Amrabat on loan. They have the option to purchase him next summer.
