Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has confirmed that Lisandro Martinez will undergo a foot surgery this week.
The Argentine suffered a metatarsal surgery earlier in April, but he made his comeback before the new campaign.
However, the healing was not complete and he suffered a recurrence of the same problem against Arsenal last month.
Ten Hag has now formally confirmed that the centre-back will be out of action for some time due to a fresh surgery.
The news is a huge blow for the Red Devils, considering Martinez's huge impact at the club over the past 14 months.
He has been an undisputed starter when fit and available. He has barely delivered a poor performance for the club.
In his absence, there will be more pressure on Raphael Varane in particular who has had a mixed injury record in his career.
The Frenchman will need to stay unscathed for the coming months or else United could have a difficult time at the back.
