Manchester United have opened talks to sign Bayern Munich striker Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting during the winter transfer window.
The Red Devils currently have Rasmus Hojlund as their undisputed frontman, but they are lacking a back-up after Anthony Martial's setback.
Martial has not played for the club over the past few weeks and he could now be on the sidelines due to an upcoming hip surgery.
As a result, United are short in the striking department and they are now exploring a temporary deal for Choupo-Moting from Bayern.
The striker is open to making a Premier League return with United but it eventually depends on the proposal on the table to Bayern.
The German champions are likely to demand at least £2m as a loan fee and may also want his wages covered for the rest of the season.
This should not be a problem in any window for United, but their FFP concerns mean that they need to be wary of spending this winter.
