Real Sociedad midfielder Mikel Merino is likely to decide between Atletico Madrid and Arsenal in the near future, according to Matteo Moretto.

The Spaniard has been with the La Liga outfit for the last six seasons but he has turned down a new contract beyond next summer. Hence, he is most likely to be sold for the best price on the table.

Sociedad are hoping to recoup £25m from his sale and Moretto claims that Atletico have already discussed a transfer through Merino's entourage.

Arsenal have also made phone calls to persuade him. Merino is likely to decide on the best solution for his career in the next few days.

The 28-year-old is a central defender by trade. He scored an impressive eight goals and registered five assists for Sociedad last season.

The Euro 2024 winner was also brilliant defensively. He won a stunning 10 duels per game alongside six recoveries and over two tackles.

Merino has the attributes to succeed in the Premier League.
