Scolari blasts Real Madrid

Scolari blasts Real Madrid

21 May 2008 - 12:38

Portugal national team football coach Luiz Felipe Scolari has blasted Spanish giants Real Madrid for not allowing Pepe to join the Portuguese squad on Monday.

  • Chelsea join Liverpool & Man Utd in race to sign 26yo
  • Barcelona identify Arsenal midfielder as key transfer target

  • At the moment the Portuguese national squad with the exception of the players involved in the UEFA Champions League final on Wednesday and Pepe are training in Viseu.

Pepe was supposed to join the rest of his Portugal teammates on Monday but he was not allowed to do so by his club Real Madrid.

Real Madrid wanted to play Pepe in a friendly match in Saudi Arabia and rejected a request from the Portuguese football federation to let the player join his team mates on Monday.

Portugual coach Big Phil has expressed his annoyance over the entire affair and said to TVI:

"Things are not always as we wish.We collaborated with Real Madrid in previous situations, but this time the Spanish club did not understand the federation's request.

"Real Madrid say the law is on their side, we and the player have to respect that, knowing that, in the future, we will have the law on our side and we might use it..."

Pepe shall join the squad on Wednesday.
