Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou has admitted that a move to sign Ivan Toney was under consideration during the summer, but opted instead to sign Domenic Solanke from Bournemouth. Ivan Toney instead made the move to Saudi Arabia.
Spurs lost 1-0 to Arsenal last weekend and once more failed in front of goal, although new striker Solanke did have a couple of useful opportunities.
Australian manager Postecoglou is known to be a huge fan of Toney, but a deal could not be agreed before the deadline. "We looked at him but the reality was that Dom is the one that I wanted. It took the whole summer to get him in but he was the one that fitted the profile that we wanted."
Toney instead made a mega money move to Al-Ahli and is now earning a reported £1 million a month in Saudi Arabia. It is understood that Spurs could not afford to match the salary on offer in the Middle East, and Toney, who has shown his ability in front of goal later on in his career, opted against a move to White Hart Lane.
