Manchester United are unlikely to pursue a deal for Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres during the January transfer window, according to Sky Sports.
The Red Devils have been disappointing in the Premier League this campaign and they have picked up only 23 points after 20 games.
Manager Ruben Amorim is desperate to add more firepower up front, but it is unlikely that the club will sign Gyokeres from Sporting CP.
Gyokeres has a release clause worth €100 million in his deal. Sporting CP won't accept anything less for his transfer this winter.
United can't afford such a fee due to their PSR concerns and they are expected to wait until the summer to lodge an approach.
In the short-term, the club could sign a temporary centre-forward.
They have opened talks with Paris Saint-Germain over a loan deal for Randal Kolo Muani, who is out-of-favour under manager Luis Enrique.
The club are likely to face competition from the likes of Juventus, AC Milan and Tottenham Hotspur in the race for the Frenchman.
