Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap has reportedly chosen to join Chelsea ahead of Manchester United this summer.
The 22-year-old had a good 2024/25 season in the Premier League, scoring 12 goals. With Ipswich's relegation, he can be signed for a release clause of just £30 million. The Blues have now won the race for his services.
United, Newcastle and Everton also held talks with the talented marksman, but he has chosen to join the Blues, who will be playing Champions League football in the forthcoming campaign.
The news is a huge blow for the Red Devils, who were determined to land Delap alongside Matheus Cunha to bolster their attack. They need to find an alternative option for a reduced cost.
Crystal Palace's Jean-Philippe Mateta has been monitored over the past few months and we won't be surprised if United make a formal approach to purchase the 27-year-old from the Eagles.
Mateta could be open to the challenge. He could boost his chances of a maiden France call-up by getting into the spotlight with United.
