Manchester United are expected to advance with discussions to sign Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez, according to journalist Uriel Lugt.

The Red Devils have had Andre Onana between the sticks for the last two campaigns, but his future is uncertain at the current point in time.

He has received assurances from manager Ruben Amorim, but the club have not ruled out the prospect of replacing him for the number one role.

It is now claimed that Martinez is high on the Red Devils' radar for the goalkeeping role and talks are expected to advance in the near future.

Martinez has already given the green light to a move to Old Trafford, but a deal won't be straightforward and may require Onana to be sold first.

On top of this, Villa are likely to demand a premium fee for the World Cup winner, considering his contract does not expire until June of 2029.

Villa could hold out for at least £30m to sanction his departure.
