Manchester United have opened talks with Aston Villa over the transfer of goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez, according to La Nacion.
The Red Devils recently suffered a huge setback with Andre Onana sustaining a hamstring injury during a pre-season training session.
The Cameroonian has now been ruled out for at least eight weeks and this is expected to force the club to enter the transfer market for a replacement.
La Nacion claim that United are ready to pay around £33 million to purchase Martinez, but Villa want at least £40m on the table.
Martinez has already given the green light for the transfer and he is waiting for the clubs to come to terms over an agreement.
The World Cup winner believes a move to United is a significant step in his career despite the club not being in Europe next term.
He has another four years left on his contract. Villa are only expected to sell him if their asking price is met before the month ends.
