Liverpool have reached an agreement with Rennes to land defender Jeremy Jacquet at the end of the campaign, according to David Ornstein.
The Reds were keen on signing the Frenchman earlier last month, but they faced fierce competition from the Blues, who made an early approach.
However, the Premier League holders have eventually won the race. Jacquet was confirmed to join them due to the prospect of more playing time.
Chelsea could not convince him over a regular starting role, given they are loaded with several central defensive options at the club and on loan.
On the contrary, Liverpool have a limited set of centre-backs. With Ibrahima Konate touted to leave on a free transfer, Jacquet could start from the off.
Liverpool have agreed a package worth £60m to sign the highly-rated centre-back, who has been compared to William Saliba for his playing style.
He will undergo his medical tests with the Merseyside giants tonight before putting pen-to-paper on a contract which starts from the beginning of July.
