France captain Patrick Vieira will miss their first match at Euro 2008 because of an injury. The French coach Raymond Domenech has confirmed the reports.

  • France is placed in Group C and they well miss captain Patrick Vieira in their first match against Romania on June 9, in Zurich. He has injured his left ankle in training on Friday, and the decision whether he remains in the tournament will be taken on June 8.



    The injury will rule him out for a few weeks, as he did not respond well to medical treatment. The 31-year old midfielder is the keyman for the French sqaud, the injury will be a major blow to their Euro hopes.



    Patrick Vieira's injury has helped Mathieu Flamini receive a call to join the French squad. If Vieira is ruled out of the tournament Flamini will replace him.



    He will travel to Switzerland with the squad on Wednesday
