Man Utd defender Mikael Silvestre is likely to be ruled out for the rest of the season after suffering a cruciate ligament injury. The Frenchman had to be taken off in Saturday's 1-0 over Everton after catching his studs in the Goodison Park pitch and falling awkwardly.
The scans have revealed a damaged cruciate ligament, and leaves Man Utd lacking in defensive cover. The sale of Gabriel Heinze late in the summer gave Man Utd little time to replace the Argentinian, and this new blow will push Spanish defender Gerard Pique up the pecking order at Old Trafford.
Silvestre joins Man Utd's other injury-list members, John O'Shea and Darren Fletcher.
