Aston Villa identify Emi Martinez replacement

Aston Villa are considering a summer move for Strasbourg goalkeeper Robin Risser as uncertainty continues to surround the long-term future of Emiliano Martínez at Villa Park. The Midlands club are believed to be closely monitoring the highly-rated French shot-stopper ahead of what could become a major rebuilding window for Unai Emery\'s side.

  • Martinez has once again attracted interest from several European clubs following another impressive campaign. The Argentine international remains one of the Premier League\'s elite goalkeepers and his reputation has only grown after continued success for both club and country. With Villa balancing financial regulations alongside ambitions of competing regularly in the Champions League, there is growing speculation that the club could eventually cash in if a substantial offer arrives.

Villa\'s recruitment department have therefore started assessing younger options with long-term potential, and Risser has emerged as one of the standout names under consideration. The 20-year-old has developed rapidly in France and is regarded as one of the most promising goalkeeping talents in Europe. His composure in possession, athletic reflexes and confidence coming off his line have reportedly impressed Villa scouts throughout the season.

Emery is known for placing huge importance on goalkeeper distribution and tactical intelligence, qualities that Risser is already beginning to show despite his age. Villa believe he could develop into a top-level Premier League goalkeeper under the right coaching structure, especially working within Emery\'s demanding system.

The club are expected to face competition if they formalise their interest. Several European sides have also tracked Risser\'s progress in recent months, particularly after a series of mature performances that highlighted his potential. Strasbourg are unlikely to let one of their brightest young players leave cheaply and would likely demand a sizeable fee for a goalkeeper viewed internally as a future first-choice option.
