Roma midfielder Daniele De Rossi rued the penalty miss that ultimately contributed to Italy's downfall and exit from Euro 2008. Italy were beaten on penalties by a resolute Spanish side.

"Undoubtedly it hurts to go out like this, but we have our heads held up high," he said.



"People always talk about how many great players have missed penalties, but the pain and the disappointment remains.



"That's the thing with penalties, one time you celebrate and the next you go out."
