Barcelona still in for Silva

16 July 2008 - 17:17

Spanish giants FC Barcelona are still in the hunt for the Valencia winger David Silva and are said to be closely monitoring the situation.

  • Mikel Arteta insists 27yo star won't be leaving Arsenal
  • Omari Hutchinson wants to continue at Ipswich Town

  • Silva, star of the Spanish national side that triumphed at the recently concluded Euro 2008, is in a convoluted contract negotiations with Valencia. the 22-year old Valencia youth product wants a pay hike which given Valencia's precarious financial situation, the club are not ready to oblige.

The player's agent, Julio Llorente, says:

"Things will continue its course and we know that if the club values Silva, obviously, it will be reflected in his contract, but we will not force anyone to rush things."

Barcelona have long been touted to make a bid for the highly talented David Silva and are closely monitoring the situation developing at the Mestalla. The Blaugranas are said to be eager to land the player at the Camp Nou this summer although they have yet to declare their interests publicly.
