Zola promises exciting football

Zola promises exciting football

20 September 2008 - 08:19

Gianfranco Zola vows to bring exciting and attacking football to West Ham, stresses the need to have the "fittest sqaud".

  • Arsenal to swap Gabriel Jesus for Inter Milan star?
  • Arsenal leading race to sign Belgian midfielder

  • West Ham's new boss, Zola is keen to introduce an attacking edge to his team style of play. The Italian had been one of the finest attackers in the history of Premier League, he wants to spread that spirit among his players.

He attributes his love for attacking football to the greatest football player of all times - Diego Maradona. They had played together for Napoli.

"We had a particularly good relationship. Then he was the best player in the world and "Diego had many things to tell me."

West Ham is a totally different team, having stressed more on long-ball, defensive football for a long time. The worrying factor for Zola and his coaches would be the fitness of the players.

West Ham had been affected by player injuries in the past 18 months. Zola pin pointed West Ham's recent defeat against West Brom 3-2, as a result of lack of fitness and the tired gameplay in the final 20 minutes.

Although, he did not blame the former coaches over the injury problems, he said he would like to change things around and has already brought his favourite Antonio Pintus as fitness coach.
