Venables: right to axe Comolli

Venables: right to axe Comolli

01 November 2008 - 11:31

Spurs legend Terry Venables believes that it was right for the club to axe director of football, Damien Comolli, after a number of high profile mistakes.

  • Chelsea target Real Madrid star to replace Fernandez
  • Chelsea to make bid for Edmond Tapsoba
  • "I cannot think of one instance when the idea has been a success," said Venables.

"Jose Mourinho's nose was first put out of joint at Chelsea by the arrival of Frank Arnesen. The appointment of Avram Grant was the final straw.

"Kevin Keegan was tipped over the edge at Newcastle by Dennis Wise and Alan Curbishley resigned as West Ham boss because Gianluca Nani was dictating transfer policy.

"So it was no surprise Harry Redknapp wasn't going to work with Comolli or any other director of football."
