Many believe that Brek Shea could be the USA's next hot prospect alongside the likes of Jozy Altidore and Freddy Adu. In fact, Shea has already attracted the attentions of Manchester United; a major indicator of this young lad's potential talent.
Shea is a very versatile young player, so versatile that even his coaches at FC Dallas have yet to decide on what his best position actually is.
During the MLS' 2008 Super Draft, Brek Shea was actually number 2. Chance Myers was number 1, but he is actually two years older than the 18 year old Shea.
Many agree that Shea's best position could actually be as a holding midfielder, as he is already showing great tenacity in the tackle whilst having great vision and excellent movement off the ball.
Shea has already represented the USA under-17 and under 20 side, and there will surely be full international honours for the FC Dallas youngster.
Manchester United have apparently had scouts monitoring the youngster for well over 6 months, and Sir Alex Ferguson could be tempted to make an offer in the next year for the player.
There are also rumours that former FC Dallas manager Steve Morrow has highly recommended Brek to Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger, who has cast his eye very closely over the youngster. Morrow has returned to the Gunners as a Partnership Performance Monitor and has offered a glowing reference.
Whatever the future holds for Brek Shea, it is surely going to be a very promising one.
Shea certainly seems to be displaying the early signs of being a very similar to the likes of Gareth Barry, with versatility and tackling as his main two attributes.
