Melo linked with Arsenal move

05 December 2008 - 15:29

Fiorentina midfielder Felipe Melo is reportedly a target for Arsene Wenger in the January transfer window. However the 25 year old Brazilian has revealed he would like to stay in Italy for the forseeable future, despite being flattered by the interest.

  • Chelsea eyeing surprise move for Spurs centre-back?
  • PSG eyeing shock move for Arsenal winger
  • Since joining Fiorentina from Almeria, the midfielder has proved that he is a very talented player capable of playing in the European top leagues.

It is understood that Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is willing to pay 7.6 million GBP for the player.

Melo's agent did confirm there were other clubs interested in his client, though: "Felipe is one of the great names of European football. Fiorentina have already taken measures to upgrade the player's contract, which was scheduled for the third year of his deal.

"Apart from Arsenal, another power of European football has shown interest in Felipe and I believe that, if he continues to play at these high levels, Fiorentina will have difficulty in retaining him."
