Steven Gerrard has admitted he was 'selfish' after his argument with Rafa Benitez over his preferred position on the pitch for Liverpool. Gerrard would prefer to play more attacking for the Reds.
Benitez had previously hinted this week that Gerrard could well move into a striker position later on in his career.
Gerrard quipped: âI used to worry because I was selfish and wanted to be in my favoured position every game â like you do on the playground when youâre a kid. But the game has changed. I have learned to understand I have a job to do for the team.
âYou canât afford to be selfish. If I play out of position and we get a win I still get the same buzz.
âIf the manager says to me Iâm playing centre midfield or off the front man, thereâs no massive difference to me.
âBut yes, I enjoy playing further forward, especially behind Fernando Torres.
âLast season was probably one of the easiest Iâve had. The quality of his runs, the amount of chaos he was causing, let me in to get 21 goals.
âIâll play wherever the manager wants me to play and not worry about it.â
