Wigan vs Liverpool: preview

29 September 2007 - 02:17

Rafa Benitez has much to think about as Fernando Torres is in contention for a place after his hat-trick in midweek against Reading. Two consecutive 0-0 draws put Rafa under pressure for his squad rotation policy, but Wigan will be looking to pick up some shock points in this Premiership encounter.

  • Mikel Arteta insists 27yo star won't be leaving Arsenal
  • Omari Hutchinson wants to continue at Ipswich Town

  • Wigan take on one of the big four sides, and since the Latics begin their top flight adventure two years ago they have played 16 League matches against wither Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United and they have so far collected a grand total of zero points.

Rafa Benitez spoke of his selection problems, "I don't know if Torres will start against Wigan. I need to decide because I know my players and watch every training session. We signed Torres because we knew about his quality and we bought Kuyt and Voronin and Crouch. Everybody is talking about Torres because he scored three goals but as a manager you have to make the decisions.”
