Shearer to sign four-year contract

26 May 2009 - 12:32

Newcastle United boss, Alan Shearer, has decided that he will remain with the club although they are relegated. The former Newcastle striker is set to meet their owner, Mike Ashley, tomorrow to sign a four-year contract.

  • Mauricio Pochettino confirms fresh injury blow for Chelsea star
  • Arsenal want to make four marquee signings this summer

  • Alan Shearer took the Newcastle job to replace hospitalised Joe Kinnear, and he could not help the team win the relegation battle. Shearer would need to re-build the squad and try to make a quick come back to the league which Newcastle thoroughly deserves.

The club needs significant transfer budget, a revamp in the backroom staff and an autonomous reign on recruitment for Shearer. The sources close to St. James' Park report that the former England captain would ask for an immediate £30m investment from owner Ashley.

"The problem we've already got is that we're lagging behind the other Championship teams who have already started preparing for next season.Newcastle will be a huge scalp for the whole of the Championship and we're up against it already so big decisions need to be made and need to be made soon. I will give my opinions to the men in charge and then it's up to them to see where they want to go."

The backroom changes might include replacing Chris Houghton and Colin Calderwood with John Carver.
