Juninho is free to leave

Juninho is 'free' to leave

27 May 2009 - 04:47

Olympique Lyon's free kick ace Juninho Pernambucarano can leave the club at the end of the season after the club's chairman decided not to extend the 34-year old's contract. The former Brazil midfielder was in tears when he knew that he has to leave the club in the summer.

  • Arsenal make surprise decision on Viktor Gyokeres
  • Arsenal to battle Napoli to sign Alexsandro Ribeiro?

  • Juninho had been a Lyon player from 2001 and had helped them to win seven successive league titles. His contract is due to expire at the end of the season. The team management has decided not to extend the contract, the reason is obvious - he is not young anymore. Although he is known as one of the best ever free-kick takers in the world, the Brazilian would need to find another club for next season.

Juninho had recently scored his 100th goal for Lyon and that match against Caen was his last appearance for the club. He has scored seven goals for Brazil and has won 44 caps.

Many top European clubs who would want this tenacious player with pin point dead-ball accuracy, especially a club from Catalunya - no points for guessing though!
