Arsenal have sounded out Manchester City about the possibility of landing England under-21 international midfielder Michael Johnson this summer, in a deal estimated to be worth up to £8 million.
It is understood that Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has offered £5 million cash and a further £3 million dependent on performances for the centre midfielder.
Last season, Johnson found his opportunities limited at the club due to the impressive form of duo Nigel de Jong and Vincent Kompany.
The arrival of Gareth Barry has paved the way for an exit for the youngster, and Arsenal could be a dream move should a deal be completed.
