Whilst there were no obvious hard-feelings in the hearts and minds of the Swansea faithful following the Italian’s move to Premiership life without them.
Wigan have endured an up-and-down journey this season in the league; trounced by Chelsea and Blackpool in the opening two fixtures of the campaign, followed by impressive recent wins against Spurs and Wolves.
However, their performances in this competition have given their fans something to cheer about on a more consistent nature when a second round victory against Hartlepool was followed up by a thrilling victory over Darren Ferguson’s Preston. Their reward for these endeavours is a tie, which on paper at least, looks to be fairly winnable.
Swansea have had a great start to their season under new manager Brendan Rodgers, winning half of their league games – an effort which has seen them placed eighth in a very competitive Championship – and in Scott Sinclair they have a player with an incredible return of eight goals from their opening twelve games.
And as of Thursday, they have added to their already impressive squad one Kemy Agustien, a 24-year-old Dutch under-21 international who in 2007 was on trial at Premiership Birmingham City – a deal which only collapsed because of the prodigious midfielder’s on-going groin problems.
But with these issues now firmly in the past, he will be hoping to add to Swansea’s wins in previous rounds against Peterborough United and Tranmere Rovers, thereby helping his new team-mates to upset the odds and attain a first ever slot in the League Cup quarter finals.
