Juan Manuel Vargas is being monitored by Alex McLeish. Aston Villa are weighing up a move for the player who could be a replacement for Stewart Downing, who is expected to join Liverpool in the next two days.

The Peru international midfielder has been with his current club Fiorentina since 2008, and Aston Villa are ready to offer 7.5m GBP for the player who has made over 30 appearances for his country.

The player is known as "The Madman" to Fiorentina fans, and is able to play anywhere in the midfield.
