German boss confirms Mertesacker talks

Germany international boss Joachim Low has confirmed that discussions are underway between Arsenal and Werder Bremen regarding the transfer of Per Mertesacker.

The German defender flew into London today to discuss personal terms with Arsenal and then undertake a medical.

"Per called me late at night and informed me of this," said Joachim Low.

"I told the players that I had set him free for the day. There is an offer."
