Arsene comments fuel Arsenal exit talk

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger could leave the Emirates in May, as revealed in comments with French Football magazine today. Wenger still has two years left on his current contract but could quit at the end of the season, after revealing he will sit down with the Gunners at the end of the season.

Arsene Wenger has appeared to lose the trust of Arsenal's fans in recent months, after five trophy barren seasons. The Arsenal faithful are not all against Wenger, but his popularity at the Emirates appears to be dwindling.

"What is hard is the feeling something is finishing. For me, we're now talking short term, it's obvious," Wenger said.

"But whether it's with me or someone else, it changes nothing. My successor needs foundations on which he can be successful.

"For the first time I lost young players, who were reaching maturity. I suffered. It's painful to lose key men you have invested a lot in.

"We'll look at things at the end of this one [this season]."

The Arsenal manager could yet still pen a new contract at Arsenal, though, as there has also been reports of early discussions with the board over a new four year contract for the Frenchman.
