Martin O'Neill has reportedly agreed to take the vacant managerial role at Sunderland. O'Neill has been out of work since stepping down as Aston Villa manager in 2009, and takes over a struggling Black Cats side currently in 16th place in the Premier League.

O'Neill has reportedly agreed a three year deal at the Stadium of Light, and will officially be unveiled as the new manager this afternoon.

Many see O'Neill as the natural successor for Sir Alex Ferguson when he steps down as Manchester United manager, but the Northern Irish coach will take over at Sunderland for the time being.

The 59 year old takes charge of a club that has only won 2 games from 13 so far this season.
