Sunderland boss admits transfer time almost up

Sunderland manager Martin O'Neill admits that time is running out for him to sign new players. The Black Cats have been linked with a whole host of players this month, but it appears the window may slam shut without any new acquisitions arriving.
Martin O'Neill took charge of Sunderland over a month ago as owner Ellis Short fired Steve Bruce, and the Northern Irishman had been given a transfer kitty of around 15 million GBP to help reverse the fortunes of the Black Cats. O'Neill has successfully done that, and without any new players, too.
Speaking about his transfer ambitions, O'Neill said: “I have had a conversation with the owner [Ellis Short]. I met him before the Chelsea game on a brief visit and I have spoken to him on the phone since the Chelsea defeat.
“I will also see him again this week, and I’ll find out what his views are and I’ll let him know mine.
“Obviously, there’s only nine days of the transfer window left so, if we’re going to have a talk about the situation, it needs to be sooner rather than later.
“I’d rather do it now than in February, but if we don’t do any business this month, I’m comfortable with that.”
