Everton's Heitinga set for Spain switch?

Evertons Heitinga set for Spain switch?

Real Mallorca representatives have taken in two Everton Premier League games in recent months, and have been in attendance casting their eye over the Netherlands' international defender Johnny Heitinga. The versatile defender could be on his way out of Goodison Park for around 5 million Euros.

Cash strapped Everton have been busy in their attempts to bring down their wage bill whilst their financial situation still remains uncertain. Last summer, Mikel Arteta was sold to Arsenal for around 10 million, but none of that money has been reinvested back into the playing squad as it was used to pay debts.

In addition, Everton have resorted to bringing in players on loan, such as the signings of Landon Donovan and Royston Drenthe, as they look to balance the books with short term signings.

Johnny Heitinga is the newest player to have been linked with a move away from Goodison. Since arriving from Atletico Madrid in 2009, Heitinga has fully embraced life in Liverpool and has become a fan favourite. However, his club may be forced to cash in this month and Real Mallorca have already been in contact.

The 28 year old - who has played 21 times for Everton already this season - could open discussions with the Spanish side on Monday morning.
