Arsenal boss will do his best to keep van Persie

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger admitted that his club must do everything in their power to secure the long term future of star striker Robin van Persie at the Emirates. The Dutchman scored his 30th and 31st goals of the season in a 2-1 at Anfield yesterday.

At present, contract talks between Robin van Persie and the club are on ice, but Arsene Wenger hopes at the end of the season representatives of both parties can thrash out terms on a new deal to keep the former Feyenoord striker at Arsenal for the long term future.

Van Persie's contract at the Emirates expires in 2013, and Wenger is planning to discuss a new deal this summer.

"We will do anything possible to keep him," said Wenger. "I cannot say much more because I have said that many times.

"I am very proud that he has grown, having seen the boy arrive here timid and today being the player he is and the leader of the team he has become.

"He is playing under big pressure in every game because he knows he has to score - that is excellent development not only as a player but as a human being. He is up there among the best players in the world."
