Gus Poyet has joined Tottenham as assistant to Juande Ramos alongside Juande Ramos. The 39-year-old had been allowed to leave by Leeds, and a compensation package has been agreed between the two clubs. Poyet has returned to Tottenham after a three year absence.

Poyet was free to leave Elland Road after Leeds agreed an undisclosed compensation package with Tottenham.

Leeds granted the London club permission to speak to their assistant manager on Sunday morning following an official approach for the Uruguayan.

A Leeds statement read: "The club would like to thank Gus for his efforts over the past 12 months and wishes him every success in his new role.

"He leaves with the best wishes of everyone connected with the club."

Poyet himself said: “It’s great to be back for various reasons. I know four or five players from my time here and I know most of the staff, so it’s great. I’ve come back to a place where I really enjoyed my football for three years.

“It was great to see all the players and talk to them. It was also important to see the quality of the team, and I know they are ready to work for Juande. We’re looking forward to the first game.”
