Barcelona Manager Tito Vilanova resigns due to health issues

The Catalan giants manager Tito Vilanova has resigned from his post due persistent issues with his health. Vilanova replaced Barca's legendary figure Pep Guardiola as boss at the La Liga side last summer.

During his managerial reign last season, the Catalan club won the La Liga title last year but Vilanova missed most of the season as he was receiving treatment for throat cancer in the United States.

The Barca Club President Sandro Rosell has confirmed that the Spaniard coach has stepped down of his post as he tries to fully recover from this illness.

Sandro Rosell in a press conference which was attended by several barcelona stars said that  "After evaluating Tito Vilanova's routine tests, the treatment to follow will be incompatible with being the First-Team coach.

"This is a very difficult blow to the club, but we have overcome many difficult setbacks.

"I want to ask for respect for the privacy of this process.”

A successor to Vilanova is set to be announced by the Catalans in the upcoming week.
