Sunderland join race to sign Valencia defender Aly Cissokho

According to the Evening Chronicle, Sunderland have joined the race to sign Aly Cissokho from Valencia. The Black Cats have resumed negotiations for the French International defender as the player's proposed move to Liverpool came to a stall.
Sunderland manager Paolo Di Canio has looked up to Cissokho as the ideal back-up option in spite of interest from the Reds, following the departure of Danny Rose to his parent club Tottenham as his season long loan-deal expired.
La Liga outfit Valencia are understood to consider an offer in the region of £5m. However, they reportedly have a proposal on the table from Liverpool, according to reports from the Daily Mail, who indicate that the Reds have made a season long loan offer for the talented fullback, which includes a £850k loan fee with an option to make the deal permanent next summer for £3.5m.
