Arsenal good enough to mount title challenge, says Arsene Wenger

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is quite confident about his squad’s prospects of winning the Premier League with or without Suarez’s addition this summer.

The Gunner’s pursuit of Suarez suffered a blow after the rejection of their £40,000,001 bid for the Liverpool striker but Wenger has still not decided to give up on him.

When asked about the club's potential to compete in the top flight, the manager said that Arsenal could mount a challenge in the League even if he fails to lure Suarez to the Emirates.

"Yes, of course. I am confident. Why should I sit here and say to you we can absolutely not win the title with the players we have?" said Wenger, who was speaking after a 2-2 draw with Napoli.

Arsenal have not created much of a stir in the transfer arena this summer, their only success being the signing of France U-20 forward Yaya Sanogo on a free transfer. When quizzed about the chances of Suarez’s Emirates arrival, the manager chose to remain coy.

"I never said we have made a bid to Liverpool, now I can tell you we have made one, so at least that is some information. All the rest, I would like to keep to us.

"If we progress in that situation, we will inform you. At the moment, that is where we are. We will treat every transfer with the rules we have always done until now, that is in a fair and respectful way."
