Leicester City custodian Kasper Schmeichel has revealed that he turned down advances from Premier League clubs and preferred to stay on at the Championship side.

Premiership new boys Hull City were reportedly highly interested in securing the Denmark international's services but the 26 year old was informed that he is not for sale by Leicester.

"There were some clubs who wanted to get me," The 26-year-old told BT.

"But Leicester told me that it didn't matter how good the offer was, because I was not for sale."

The son of former Manchester United goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel enters the final year of his contract at King Power stadium and could leave for free next summer.

"That the club is willing to let my contract expire is a big compliment," he added.

Schmeichel also expressed his desire to represent the Denmark side in the World Cup next year but is happy to play second fiddle to first choice goalkeeper Stephan Andersen.

"I would like to play," he added. "Everyone wants to do that. Morten (Olsen) has declared that Stephan is number one and I accept that.

"Stephan has always done well for the national team, therefore there is no reason why he should not play."
