Alderweireld close to Atletico move

Ajax Amsterdam defender Toby Alderweireld has revealed that he is close to securing his move to Atletico Madrid and admitted that it was hard to turn down the La Liga side.

The 24 year old defender has been linked with a move to Atletico this summer and is likely to complete his move as soon as he passes the medical test.


"At Atletico there is a four-year deal waiting for me. The deal is not complete yet as I still have a medical test," he told De Telegraaf.


"I expect this will be today and after it we can work out some details.


"Everyone knows I wanted to make the next step. When a club like Atletico shows up you are always willing to listen.


"Negotiations have started and I will be relieved when they succeed."


However, Alderweireld admitted that he has had a great time at Ajax and it was not an eaasy decision to leave the club where he spent his youth.


"I look back with a fantastic feeling on my time at Ajax. I spent a big part of my youth here.' he added.


"This club will always be in my heart. Many see that, but only a few are at the same club for a long time. I am very grateful."
