Ander Herrera denies agreeing to a switch to Manchester United on deadline day

Athletic Bilbao's star midfielder Ander Herrera has denied reports claiming him to have agreed a switch to Premier League champions Manchester United towards the conclusion of the transfer deadline day.

The proposed move eventually fell through, due to the Red Devil's unwillingness to trigger his £30m release clause, but the 24-year-old Spanish midfielder has expressed that that he had no contact with the Premier League side.

He said : "I feel very flattered to see that one of the biggest clubs in the world made an offer for me..

"At no moment did either I or my agent reach an agreement with United. At no moment did I speak with United.

"I do not know if they spoke with my agent, but after that they would need to persuade me [to leave Athletic]. They had to pay the clause and then make a more persuasive case to me than Athletic. I never saw myself elsewhere."

The Spanish media had suggested that a move for Herrera was close to completion when lawyers attended the La Liga offices in Madrid, claiming to have come on United's behalf, which has been denied by the Red Devils later on.

However, Herrera added on saying that Manchester United have some questions to answers.

He said: "The lawyers who were at the LFP offices did not represent me. I did not even know who they were. There are questions which United must answer."
