Chelsea quick to defend their youth and loan policies

Chelsea's technical director Michael Emenalo has defended his club for their handling of youth players. The club have faced some criticism in recent weeks for sending so many youngster's on loan and many pointed to the situation of Victor Moses as poor development for the player.

Emenalo thinks that with future financial fair play rules set to disrupt the club's transfer policy, the club have been swift to snap up the best young players in Europe now instead of paying top dollar for them later on.


The Blues have sent several players on loan to Vitesse whilst Victor Moses joined Liverpool on loan during the transfer window.


"We are trying to find a way because given Financial Fair Play stipulations we need to recruit young and we also need to have a reservoir of talent that we develop," Emenalo said.

"We identified that for young players, the ages of 18 to 21 is the most difficult time as they wonder if they are good enough for the Chelsea first team and what is next for them.

"We felt it is better for them at that age to go on loan to somewhere where they get visibility and good competition. For psychological and physical reasons that is the best thing to do at that age."
