Rob Elliot keen to displace Tim Krul as Newcastle United's first choice keeper
Rob Elliot has insisted that he is keen to displace Tim Krul as Newcastle United's number one.
The 27-year-old who joined the Toons in 2011, had an impressive spell with the club at the end of last season, following Tim Krul's absence with an injury.
However, Elliot is now keen to become the Magpies's first choice shot stopper after falling back the pecking order this season.
He told Sky Sports : "Tim is a top keeper and he is the number one, but I am not here just to sit on the bench. I am here to push him.
"That's what I did all pre-season and I was disappointed, to be honest with you, not to start the season.
"Obviously, Tim has been fantastic, as he usually is. All I can do is back it up when I get a chance to play and keep doing well in training."
Newcastle United faceoff against Aston Villa at Villa Park on Saturday.
