Sunderland boss Poyet not thinking about January transfers
Sunderland's new manager Gus Poyet has not had time to think about which players he would like to sign for the Black Cats in the January transfer window. Former manager Paolo Di Canio famously brought in 14 new players last summer.
Poyet has been brought in this week to take charge at the Black Cats and is tipped to be particularly active in the January transfer window. But the former Brighton man has told reporters that, for the time being, his number 1 priority is to look at the squad he already has and then consider strengthening come January.
"My idea is to assess the players that are here and make sure I check them properly," said Poyet.
"Which ones are down, which ones want to be here and which ones can help me.
"I will learn things this way. And then, depending on what I see in the next month or two, I will talk to him [owner Ellis Short]. But I don’t think we can start talking too much before then.
"At the moment, it’s not something I’m even thinking about."
