Puyol: Barca must beat Lyon

Barcelona defender Carlos Puyol has insisted that the Catalan side must beat Lyon away in order to help themselves in the last-16 and benefit from a home tie. Barcelona top group E in the Champions League with a three-point cushion on Rangers, who have a one-point lead on Lyon.

Lyon are still in with a chance of qualifying for the knockout phase, but Barcelona are determined to finish top of the group in order to benefit from playing at home for the first leg of their last-16 clashes.

"Finishing top (of the group) is good for the image of the club and the fans, but it's a lot more important as regards playing at home for the first leg of the knockout phase," said the shaggy-haired defender.

"Against Lyon, we won't be slacking off. We'll play our usual game, which everyone knows us for. We always come on to the pitch with the aim of winning, and we won't be aiming for a draw."
