Arsenal tell Man Utd to double the bid for Thomas Vermaelen

Newly appointed United bosss Louis Van Gaal is keen on signing Arsenal's out-of-favour defender to Old Trafford this summer.

Arsenal have turned down the Red Devils' initial bid for Vermaelen - thought to be worth £6m.

According to reports, the Gunners will not do business for anything less than £12m.

Vermaelen suffered an injury during Belgium's 1-0 over Russia at the World Cup.
