Liverpool confirm Luis Suarez departure

Liverpool have officially announced the sale of star striker Luis Suarez to Barcelona this summer.

The Catalan giants have been linked with a move for the talented Uruguayan international, even since his return from the World Cup finals in Brazil, and reports claim that a fee of around £75m has been agreed between both clubs for the talented striker, who is expected to sign a five-year contract as soon as he undergoes a medical at Camp Nou next week.

"Liverpool FC confirms that Luis Suarez will be leaving the club after a transfer agreement was reached with FC Barcelona. The player now has permission to complete the usual formalities, which will then conclude the transfer." A statement on the club's official website read. "We would like to thank Luis for his contribution and the role he played in helping bring Champions League football back to Anfield."

Luis Suarez notched up 82 goals in 133 games for Liverpool since his move from Ajax in January 2011.
