Arsenal offered Sporting midfielder at cut-price deal

Arsenal have been reportedly offered the chance to sign Sporting Lisbon midfielder William Carvalho on a bargain price during the current transfer window.

The Portuguese international has been associated with a switch away from the Primeira Liga giants this summer, with the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea interested in landing his signature.

According to Tutto Mercato, Sporting are ready to compensate a fee for the holding midfielder, following the Gunners' refusal to pay the £24m fee initially quoted by the club.

However, the deal could include an option which would allow the 22-year-old to spend the rest of the season on loan at the Portuguese club.

Carvalho scored four goals in 29 games for Sporting last season.
