Argentine goalkeeper Sergio Romero rubbishes claims that he rejected an offer from Manchester United

Argentine goalkeeper Sergio Romero has dismissed claims that he had turned down a move to Manchester United this summer.

The 27-year-old, who was a part of the White and Sky Blues’ squad that reached the finals of the World Cup in Brazil this year, had become a target for a number of top European clubs after his impressive show in the tournament.

He had been heavily linked to a move to Old Trafford in the last few days of the recently closed transfer window, with Louis van Gaal reportedly keen on bringing the player in, but rumours suggested that he had refused to sign with the English giants.

However, he has denied any interest from the Premier League side insisting that it would have been foolish of him to say no such an offer down.

“Many lies have been spread, like, for example, that I refused a transfer to Manchester United”, the footballer told Radio Nacional.

“To me, something like that is crazy.”

Romero had spent his last year on loan to AS Monaco, but just made nine appearances for the Ligue 1 side. He returned to his parent club Sampdoria this season, but has so far been acting as a back-up to Palermo’s on-loan shot-stopper Emiliano Viviano.
